Why Does Bailey Seem Angry and Upset With Ben at the Summer House Reunion? What are you doing?

Does Bailey Taylor have reason to be upset with Ben Waddell? The reunion exchange is dividing viewers, so it’s worth looking at what he actually did versus what he accused him of.

The only direct scene between them this season happened in Episode 6, after Amanda’s birthday dinner.

During the group’s “say one nice thing about Amanda,” Ben started complimenting her “big eyes and smile.” Bailey joked, for the second time: “Ben’s going to talk about how he really wants to sleep with you.” He was talking about the skinny-dipping team running in Italy, and he said it in front of Kyle.

After dinner, Ben went to Bailey’s room and secretly pulled her aside. He told her that the comment was rude, not funny, and not to say it again. His voice was firm and studious. He kept pressing her about where her party was and where her head was headed.

Bailey apologized at the time and explained that it was just a joke about the team’s run. She said giving birth felt like she was being blamed, and it triggered memories of her abusive lover yelling at her. The microphone caught her breaking down in the bathroom afterwards.

That was the only conflict between them that played out all season. In episode 7, they had to kiss during a spin-the-bottle game, and Ben apologized for being rude the night before. They continued. There is no more drama between the two of them.

So what exactly was the reunion talk about?

Bailey wasn’t slowing down that one-room talk. He was calling out a pattern he saw in the way Ben talked to women around the house. His central claim: “You like to scold women. That’s your problem.”

About Sabrina, Ben’s girlfriend: “Sabrina is beautiful. I think she can do better than you.” He told Ben that he talks to Sabrina “like s—t” and that he’s been watching it happen on camera all season.

Then there’s the double standard: “When you talk to Kyle, you look like you’re going to fall in love with him, no matter how wrong you are.” With women, he said, it’s always a lesson.

He also points to Ben and confronts Amanda firmly after Amanda makes a joke to Sabrina that everyone thinks Ben is in love with Amanda. Ben told Amanda that it wasn’t necessary, that Sabrina had dumped him, and it was making things difficult for his relationship.

Ben’s defense of the meeting was that he and Bailey did not know each other, and that he treated Amanda as “one of the boys.” Bailey wasn’t buying it. Lindsay said something like, “I feel like we opened something up,” and the cast looked surprised.

So here’s the honest read: Bailey said something nice out of pocket at the dinner table in front of everyone. Fans are divided on whether he was setting a reasonable boundary behind the inappropriate joke, or whether the delivery was off. Bailey then took that one scene and turned it into a big thesis about how he talked to every woman in the house.

Sabrina’s update: Part 1 of the reunion just aired, and as of now Sabrina has not posted or commented publicly about Bailey’s accusations or Ben’s tone. She and Ben are still together and have been posting the usual cute couple content, but there’s no mention of a reunion.
