Google recognizes invalid click credits with new ad support documents

Google has published new documents highlighting the Invalid Activity Credit Report, bringing renewed attention to a little-known tool that helps advertisers track refunds issued for invalid clicks and interactions.
Big picture. It’s unclear whether the Invalid Credit Report itself is new as advertisers have seen several of those metrics, such as invalid click-through rate, before. However, the help document makes it clear that the report provides advertisers with a more detailed view of credits issued for invalid traffic across Search and High Performance campaigns.
How does this work. Google says it uses automated systems to detect and block invalid traffic before advertisers are charged. But some illegal activity is identified only after making the payment.
If that happens, Google may issue credits to advertisers for related fees.
While those credits already appear in your payment and transaction history, an Invalid Job Credit Report provides a more detailed explanation:
- Clicking on the entry
- Guaranteed cooperation
- Money spent
- Campaign level impact
- Performance metrics are adjusted after credits are applied

Why do we care. The Invalid Activity Credit Report provides a clear picture of how much campaign spend is being returned due to invalid clicks and traffic, helping advertisers better understand their actual performance and costs.
The new help documents also raise awareness of a reporting tool that many advertisers may not know exists, making it easier to assess traffic quality and verify Google’s fraud prevention efforts.
Why Google created it. According to Google, the report is designed to provide a clear picture of campaign performance after invalid traffic corrections.
The company says the report helps advertisers:
- View adjusted costs, clicks and interactions after credits are applied.
- Reduces the need to manually reconcile payment credits with campaign performance.
- Better understand how Google’s invalid traffic protection affects individual campaigns.
How to reach it. Advertisers can get the report through the report editor in Google Ads.
In the Template Gallery, users can select “Invalid Activity Credit Report: Search & PMax” to generate a report populated with standard campaign metrics alongside new columns for credited clicks, credited engagements and input values.
Additional customized performance metrics can be added to show campaign results after credits are applied.
What you can watch. The report can be a valuable evaluation tool for marketers with large Search and Performance budgets, especially those monitoring traffic quality and investigating discrepancies between reported and billed performance.
As AI-powered campaign automation continues to proliferate, visibility into invalid traffic and chargebacks may become a more important part of campaign management.
