Ticket sales reserved for Spotify for die-hard music fans are now live

Spotify’s initiative to cater to top music fans is now live. On Thursday, the music giant announced the launch of “Reserved by Spotify,” a new program that will identify an artist’s most eligible fans, and reserve them two tour tickets before general ticket sales open.

The feature will be available starting today in the US for Premium subscribers (ages 18+). Timed alongside his tour news, Exemplary Grant will be the artist’s first partner to take advantage of the ticketing system, and fans will begin receiving notifications about their secured tour tickets from June 23, ahead of the general public sale. Spotify said it will not collect any transaction fees.

This feature is only available to artists currently performing at Live Nation venues, and ticket sales through Ticketmaster. The broadcaster said it intends to add more partners over time to include smaller locations and international users.

The Reserved Program is designed to reward music fans at a time when new concert tickets are quickly snapped up by scalpers using automated tools, and then resold at a higher price as the event sells out.

For Spotify, Reserved serves as an easy way to promote paid subscriptions and increase engagement with its app. When fans get concert tickets reserved for them by streaming their favorites, they’re more likely to tune in and do just that.

Spotify first announced its superfan program in May, noting that it will use signals like streams, shares, and other activity to determine who it considers a real fan. The company also said that the platform will monitor activity to ensure that fans are not playing these stats using bots or AI agents.

In other words, you won’t be able to grab a ticket by endlessly playing an artist’s music — the company will look for signs that you’re still interacting with its app the way a normal user would. Or, as Spotify puts it, “leaving music behind won’t give anyone a leg up.”

Reserved will also check the user’s location to make sure they are close to the show before making a donation.

After going live, eligible fans will see a personalized offer on their Spotify home screen, allowing them to view tour dates, see the Reserved window, and set a reminder to purchase tickets. When the Reserved Ticket window opens – usually about a day – they can buy two tickets before they go on sale to the public.

In addition, Spotify has noted that there will be more fans than available seats in most cases, meaning that not every fan will receive an offer of tickets every time.

Role Model, his 17-city US tour and shows, will be the first in a “series” of additional artist tours to be launched this week, Spotify noted without naming names. Reserved Tickets joins others focused on live music, such as the recently announced support for a beta feature that allows artists to upload videos of live performances and other music videos.
