In her new memoir “The Love Producer,” Julie LaPlaca writes that the emotional bond she made with Peter Weber while producing Season 24 of The Bachelor turned physical in early 2020, after his on-camera breakup with Hannah Ann Sluss and while the season was still playing. He was her main producer and confidante during the recording, and he puts what happens as blurred lines without crossing what he calls clear moral boundaries.

Weber does not deny that it happened. In a statement sent to TMZ, he said, “I am not a victim in all of this. His objection is that she published it against his wishes. He says that he asked her, in a recorded interview before the book came out, to leave her name and their private times, which she said she refused.

Julie LaPlaca spent seven years producing The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. In the 24th season, which was filmed in 2019 and aired in early 2020, he was the producer assigned to guide Peter Weber in this process as his main confidant.

Her memoir, “The Love Producer,” came out July 7 through BenBella Books, with a foreword from longtime broadcaster Chris Harrison. In it, he writes that a strong emotional bond was formed during the recording process, describing Weber as one of his “soul mates” and saying that the lines between them were blurred. She writes that it turned physical in early 2020, after Weber’s breakup with cameraman Hannah Ann Sluss and while the season was still airing on ABC. He says the relationship fell apart when he started dating Kelley Flanagan. He presents relationships as blurred lines that never cross what he calls clear ethical boundaries, and the book as his account of the search for love.

Weber responded the same day the letter came out. In a statement to TMZ, he said he finds it “surprising that Julie is coming out with a book about finding your truth and finding love, all the time I’m trying to do that on my season of ‘The Bachelor,’ with her as my biggest confidant and guide throughout this process.” He doesn’t deny the relationship. “I am by no means a victim in all this,” he said. “I am a grown man who is responsible for all my actions, and I know that.”

His story is trust. He said the experience “involved a certain level of trust in people I didn’t know very well at the time,” and “it’s hard to understand how Harrison and Julie could support this kind of book knowing how much they let me down.” He says he had a taped interview with her, about 90 minutes long, before publication, asking her to leave out his name and their private moments. He refused.

He says that since he has moved on, he is in a good place, and is hoping to find love.
