Eric Stonestreet was one of the guests inside Madison Square Garden when Taylor Swift married Travis Kelce, and he says the criticism of the venue doesn’t miss the point. To him, a platform built to transport famous people through hidden tunnels was the only place where a couple could have a normal wedding.

Stonestreet and his wife Lindsay Schweitzer almost deleted the invitation, thinking it was spam. “We couldn’t confirm with anyone. We had to hope it was true,” the “Modern Family” actor told Chiefs Wire in an interview published on Wednesday.

A lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan, the 54-year-old has known Kelce for years and stepped back at the July 3 event. He pointed out that the public arena, where Swift has performed in the past, does not offer the couple a traditional venue.

MSG was a viable choice for that reason. The stadium was designed for celebrities and athletes, with private corridors, service corridors and restricted doors that allow VIP guests to pass through without interfering with the public.

Adam Sandler, Kelce’s “Happy Gilmore 2” costar, is in charge. The bride and groom both wore Christian Dior Haute Couture, and the guest list ranged from Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes to Ed Sheeran and Zoë Kravitz.

“They created a night that felt normal in these unusual circumstances,” Stonestreet said. “We were happy with them.”
