God Is Love—And No Man Can Take His Place (1 John 4:8)

It is very easy to fall into the lie that we as women will be perfect if we have a man. We fall prey to the trap that tells us that our worth is found in someone else. Our identity revolves around being someone’s girlfriend, boyfriend, or wife. But the truth is, the only “person” we are belongs to the Lord.

I see it over and over again, and I’ve been doing the same thing for a long time. I really believed that everything would be fine once I had a man. I thought that my happiness was found in having a man, and my only purpose on this Earth was to find a man. It’s almost a self-fulfilling prophecy. We crave everything we believe a man will do for us so much that our biggest fear is the thought of ending up alone. And because of this great fear, we lose sight of what is most important and we will make our greatest fear come true. We put man above all other things, including God, to cut off the only way we will ever meet a perfect person. We lose sight of Jesus.

The funny thing about this is that making our main focus on the Lord, is the only way that all the things we hope for in man will ever come true. Our happiness, our worth, our identity, can only be fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

Fulfillment begins with Christ, not relationships—check out more here.

So although it is difficult to put our human intentions aside, and focus all our energies on God, it is the only way to experience the perfect love that we so long for.

Now I am by no means saying that looking for a man is a bad thing or something to be ashamed of. We were designed to find comfort in the company of others. But when it comes to danger we are looking for a man more than we are looking for our perfect Savior.

However, the good news is this, when you finally let go of the main desire of your heart to be a person, when you really let go and allow God, and when you are satisfied with His love and His only, then He will bring you the love from a person that you have been looking for for a long time.

We must be patient, and trust, because God has a plan for each of us. Sometimes when we feel that God ignores our fervent prayers, He says, “for now.” He is patiently waiting for us to be in the perfect place to receive love from a man. Because if we are not right about our spiritual lives, it is almost impossible to be in the right place to fully love and be loved by another person.

The time when we are satisfied with only needing one man in our lives, and that man is Jesus, is the same time when God will bless our lives with a man whose heart was designed by hand to compliment ours. We must remember that He has a great plan, and He will not leave us feeling sad and unloved. But he also loves us so much that he waits for us to be in the best place to fall deeply in love with someone. Fall in love with Jesus, and Jesus will bring you a man who loves you more. God is everything we need, but he cares for us so much, that he gives us someone who we don’t need but who brings some kind of beauty into our lives that we have been LOOKING FOR. That fairytale ending we’ve all dreamed of isn’t an illusion, those stories just left out one part that made it happen; Jesus. After all, as 1 John 4:8 reminds us, “God is love.”

The end is not an illusion; it starts with Jesus—read another prayer here.
