Google says AI Mode remains ad-free for Personal Intelligence users

While Google continues to test ads in AI mode, users who connect apps to enable Human Intelligence won’t see ads — and that’s not changing yet, a Google spokesperson confirmed.

What’s going on. Google has been testing ads within AI Mode in the US

  • Early results: users find this business communication “useful,” per Google.
  • But there is a clear draw: no ads for users who opt-in to the app’s connection, a more personalized experience.

Details. Google today rolled out Personal Intelligence in AI Mode as a beta for anyone in the US, allowing Gemini to generate tailored responses by connecting data from across its ecosystem, including Google Search, Gmail, Google Photos, and YouTube.

  • Opting in to Personal Intelligence creates an ad-free experience within AI Mode.

Why do we care. Ads are coming in AI mode, but Google is moving cautiously where personal data goes. Personal Intelligence’s personal information remains ad-free for the time being while Google is working on the right balance.

What Google says. A Google spokesperson told Search Engine Land:

  • “There are currently no ads for people choosing to connect their apps with AI Mode. That’s not changing at this point.”
  • “Over the past few months, we’ve been testing ads in AI Mode in the US. Our tests have shown that people find this interaction with businesses useful and opens up new opportunities to find products and services.
  • “In the future, we expect that ads will work the same way for people who choose to connect their apps with AI Mode. Ads will continue to be relevant to things like your question, the context of the answer and your interests.”

Bottom line. Personal Intelligence positions Google’s Gemini app as a personal assistant, setting the emotional platform for future ads built on rich, cross-platform user content.
