How to Get Out of a Rut (According to Your Zodiac Sign)

Everything meant for you is still waiting for you. Even if you have failed in the past, even if you feel so stuck you can’t imagine that you can do it one day. Even if you’ve blown every shot you’ve been given, if you don’t believe in yourself, if you’re afraid, if you’re not sure how things will turn out, even if no one else can understand you. You still contain within you the power of everything you ever wanted to be. It’s not too late. – Brianna Wiest, The Year of the Pivot

Ask for help. This is probably the last thing you would consider, and that’s why you should do it. You can’t do everything yourself, so let someone else get you out of the way.

Get out of the house. Go for a walk in nature, read a book at a coffee shop, or spend the day by the river. Sometimes even one step away from your comfort zone can be enough to start a new phase in your life.

Ask a trusted friend for advice–and follow it. You usually charge up front based on what you want, which means you’re not always doing what’s best for you. Your friends know where you are wrong. It’s time to ask them.

Lead with your head and not your heart. Normally you prefer to go with your gut in every decision, but that’s what got you into this situation in the first place. Change things according to the analysis route.

Accept failure and defeat. You hate losing, so you may be holding on to something longer than you should, like a dying relationship or a bad job. Let things go so you can replace them with something wonderful.

Delete the script. Despite what you might think, there is no one right way to do things. If you were, you wouldn’t feel so stuck. So the next time you have to make a decision, start with plan b. Heck, plan c or d would be even better.

Stop analyzing everything. I know that’s easier said than done, but over-analyzing is becoming crippling. You no longer trust your gut. Make a vow to just do it, and don’t put too much thought into it.

Tell someone how you feel. It doesn’t have to be how you feel seealthough that would be really fun. Instead, just let people know how you are so you don’t go through this process alone.

Visit with family. You always have something going on, so it’s probably about time you saw your immediate family members. Seeing them, talking to them, getting lots of hugs—all will go a long way in making you feel good again.

Take time off to take care of yourself. He hates “just sitting around.” You feel like it makes you look lazy. Babe, no. Everyone needs time to relax and de-stress, including you. Your behavior is due to overwork, so self-care should help you.

Listen to your feelings. It’s not something you usually do. You better keep working. But that do-it-yourself attitude means you’ll ignore the deeper things holding you back. Get in touch with your feelings to help you get unstuck.

Stop worrying about where you “should” be. Sometimes you have to be happy where you are right now. Life rarely goes where you direct it, so enjoy the journey and embrace the destination.
