Isaiah 30:15 reminds us that rest is strength

True strength is not doing everything—surrendering, slowing down, and trusting God. Choosing rest, limits, and gentleness is faith in action, not weakness. This is Rebecca Simon’s place Finding God Every Day reveals how trust in God brings peace to both peace and surrender, helping us to embrace a gentler, fuller life. Read more below.

You don’t need to find your way to rest. You don’t need to prove your worth by being bossy or patient. Somewhere along the way, many of us have been taught that strength looks like giving up – like staying tied to things that no longer serve us, like pushing through exhaustion, like making peace or breaking stress. From a young age, we were taught that doing everything is good, that limits are a sign of difficulty, and that meekness is weakness.

But God never asked you to be a machine. He never measured your worth by how much you were able to be together in this life. He never wants you to feel like you have to try hard to be loved.

You are allowed to seek a peaceful life. A life centered on peace. A life where your nervous system is not always in survival mode, where your breath can take deep breaths. Choosing peace over perfection doesn’t mean you give up — it means you wake up. It means you stop believing that your value is a direct reflection of your productivity. It means that you have started to trust that what is meant for you will not require you to suffer just to keep it, it will not exhaust you or prevent you from succeeding in your life.

At the end of the day, lean life does not mean small. It often takes more courage to slow down than to keep moving forward. It takes more faith to trust that there is no need to chase after what is already yours. Resting when the world is pushing, saying no when people expect you to say yes, choosing presence — these are not signs of weakness; they are signs of mutual understanding. They are signs that you are no longer willing to give yourself up in order to be accepted.

You are allowed to walk away from what you spend. You are allowed to stop chasing relationships that make you feel like you are too hard to hold onto. You are allowed to stop apologizing for needing rest, or space, or simplicity. God not only meets you in your strength, but also meets you in your devotion. He is just as present in your silence as He is in your growth, and His plan for your life does not require you to earn your way to fitness. You just deserve it.

If your heart has been aching for softness – listen to it. If your spirit is tired of carrying more than it was meant to hold – put it down. God’s peace is not found in the chaos you are used to; found in gentleness taught to avoid it.

Trust in the power of God. Read Rebecca Simons books.

This is your permission to relax, to slow down, to create a life that feels like home. Not only to others, but also to you. You are allowed to choose a softer life, and you are safe to do so. Please don’t ever forget that.
