Broadcom Announces VMware Tanzu Platform Agent Foundations for Security, PaaS Simplicity

Many companies struggle because their first AI projects were AI experiments, built in isolated locations, such as separate research labs. These tests were difficult to manage, often lacked proper security, and could not securely connect to the company’s core business data.

Broadcom’s solution is VMware Tanzu Platform agent basics, a secure, pre-built PaaS environment designed for AI agents. It sits on top of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).

Security is a big plus, making the platform secure by default. This protection is based on three major innovations. First, clean building blocks, uses cloud-native Buildpacks to automate the creation of AI agent containers. This process automatically scans and updates everything to stop hidden digital problems, such as embedded malware, from entering.

Next, the platform uses something Broadcom calls “structural encryption,” which prevents one AI agent from learning passwords or sensitive information of another agent while it’s running, preventing security threats from spreading throughout the network. Combined with VMware vDefend, that protection extends to all infrastructure services and external SaaS connections, Broadcom wrote in the announcement.

Currently, The use of zero-trust networking prevents agents from connecting to internal company systems or data. Access is only granted when expressly approved, preventing “roaming agents” from accessing unauthorized information.

For developers, the platform offers a quick start, providing a pre-built agent that can quickly give them secure, controlled access to the AI ​​models and integrated information they need. The platform restricts agent loops that run through predefined resource limits, while connections to those resources can only be accessed if access is explicitly granted through secure service obligations.

Finally, the platform handles all the hard work of deploying and growing applications. It creates a scalable environment that automatically increases or decreases the computing power and storage needed by agents, saving money and keeping performance optimized. The platform also has four layers of high availability and self-sustainability, which ensures that these critical standalone applications never stop working.

We see a real need for guidance, frameworks, and SDKs to help organizations get started with agent AI programs. With this new release, the Tanzu Platform can help these organizations move from the crawling phase to the walking phase, ensuring they can connect the ever changing agentic value.”
