IT WILL AGAIN be a chance to see art on a beautiful summer day this month at Jaime Velasquez Park in Salcedo Village, Makati City.

With its 20 successesth The program, Art in the Park will present 55 exhibitors representing galleries, art collections, independent art spaces, and student groups, all showcasing the diversity of Philippine art. It will start at 10 am and end at 10 pm on March 15, Sunday.

In addition to the entertainment being free, the prices of the works of art go up to P70,000, and many art lovers can’t afford the coveted pieces for even less. “It’s always been about accessibility and appreciating art in a non-intimidating setting, and over the years we’ve stayed true to that,” Art in the Park founder Trickie Lopa said at a Feb. 27 at Pablo Bistro, Makati City.

This year, the outdoor exhibition will continue to donate a portion of its profits to the Museum Foundation of the Philippines, to support projects and programs that preserve and promote the nation’s cultural and historical heritage.

“I’m glad we’re still here after 20 years,” said Art in the Park founder Lisa Periquet. BusinessWorld. “That’s the best thing about it — our longevity and how we’ve adapted. The park has changed so many times, and we’re still here. There’s a lot of history now.”

ARRIVED MUSICIANS
Each year the exhibition highlights a number of artists whose works are displayed in special exhibitions around the park.

This year’s featured artist is Ayka Go, a Filipino visual artist known for her delicate work on paper.

Ms. Go, acclaimed for her collages and ethereal paintings reinterpreted from three-dimensional forms, will present “a world of memory and material.”

“I chose to do something trivial because it’s Art in the Park,” she said. “Many artists now have different practices in this way.

He explained that his latest works show how he is “finding his footing in the painting process” following a health crisis. Visitors will be able to enjoy his intricate vision of paper and the art that goes into representation through painting and collage.

“The thing about art is that if you keep doing it, it becomes a form of therapy,” he added.

To Ms. Lopa, choosing different artists each year to focus on is a great way to see how Filipino art is evolving.

“When I look back, the artists who have shown with us since 2006 have become celebrities,” he said. “Art in the Park really allows us to find an artist and appreciate their art.”
