Time Doesn’t Heal All Wounds, God Does

I’ve heard it said before that “Time Heals All Wounds” and while I believe this is true to some extent, I want to explore the idea that maybe it’s more complex than that simple statement. I believe that something greater and more powerful than space and time must exist somewhere in the mix of heartache and healing when it comes to mending all wounds.
Time Heals All Wounds.
I think people say this to bring comfort to themselves and others when they are going through grief or a painful time in their life. I know this saying has brought me temporary comfort before. Perhaps you feel depressed, betrayed and disappointed; or maybe you have wronged someone you love and care about. Regardless of which side you are on, I am sure that you have found comfort at some point in the belief that with time, all wounds will heal and you will gradually overcome any grievances that you thought were irreparable.
Time is beneficial in healing and may be an extra push to help you make sense of the chaos, but time itself does not bring peace. Years can pass and unless you deal with your pain and find a way to heal it, time will do nothing for your inner peace and make you whole again.
God is the one who heals our broken hearts. You have a responsibility to heal those wounds that we cannot escape.
I’m sure that as “time” goes by, you get wiser and it becomes easier for you to accept what’s going on, but I don’t think a period of not having anyone hurt you or vice versa REALLY heals you.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
He counts the number of stars, naming each of them
Our Lord is great, he has great power
His understanding is limitless— Psalm 147:3-5
I believe that God is the only one who can fully and completely bring it all together. He is the only one who knows your heart well enough to put it back in place. After all, he was the one who created and molded you in your mother’s womb. He is the only one who can remove the uncertainty and doubt that accompany painful experiences. All you have to do is call on Him to help you. Putting all your faith and hope in God is not easy, and probably never will be.
Many times we want to fix things in our lives by ourselves, or we think we have a better way to do it, but the truth is, only the one who created you can bring you true inner peace.
Leave it to Him, for He has more wisdom to heal hearts and give comfort than we can ever understand. God is the only one who can make a permanent, lasting change in your heart.
Sometimes God can feel distant, and just because you give Him control over your life and outcome, doesn’t mean you’ll get your answer right away. Sometimes it will take “time”, but I believe that whatever time is appropriate for your situation, you will learn important lessons along the way. Lessons that teach you how to wait patiently on the Lord and fully trust Him and His plan for your life.

If God determines the number of stars in the sky, and has the power to call them all by their names, how much more can he do for you? You have to internalize that he loves you. Then he’s the one you run to when you need a wound to heal, and you don’t want to place your bets when you’re alone. Time is a man-made concept, and God is outside of time. You don’t need to depend on the passage of days or years to find peace in your soul.
Look to God, seek his wisdom and truth. Ask Him to help you and heal those parts of your heart that need more help. I promise you will listen, and I guarantee you, you will.
