A Prayer for Friends Who Remain (Even When Life Gets Hard)

True friendship is God’s active grace. Let Lacey Ramburger’s prayer inspire you, and let Rebecca Simon’s Finding God Every Day show you how to find His presence in people who inspire you. Let your connection know – learn more below today.
Dear God, thank you for the friends you have placed in my life
Thank you that at the right times, you have allowed me to cut off people who would be my best representatives and supporters. They love me at my best and worst. When they hit me, I didn’t even think about stopping again.
Thank you for giving me strong people who were not afraid of my weaknesses. They weren’t afraid to show me theirs, and let me know I wasn’t alone. The ones who took the words “love,” “loyalty,” and “trust” and interpreted them in ways I never expected.
Thank you for allowing me to return the favor to them, knowing that friendship is not something you get from people, but also something you give. I’m thankful that even when I think about myself, they stand up for me. Thank you for giving me people who really made me want to be a better person and a better friend.
Thank you for giving me friends whose arms were always open, no matter what I was doing. That when my heart breaks, they squeeze me tight to help me hold it together. Friends who weren’t afraid to call me out when I was wrong but did it in a kind, positive way.
Thank you for taking my success and celebrating it with as much joy as their own. Who encouraged me whenever my dreams seemed too strong or unrealistic. They reminded me that failure is not the end. Thank you for introducing me to people who listened to me when I needed someone, and who trusted me enough to do the same when they needed me.
Thank you for giving me people who know how to make me laugh more and more than I thought possible. Who could help create memories that I would cherish years later. They showed me that happiness, creativity, and friendship can come in unexpected ways. Who bring joy naturally into my life without trying, just because of who they are.
Thank you for showing me those who have walked away from my weirdest, worst, and weirdest phases. He gave me people who let me be responsible and find it fun instead of annoying. That never once made me feel like I had to change myself to be accepted or loved.

Thank you for treating our friendship as a bond, not leaving when things were difficult. When distance, miscommunication, or confusion take over, thank you for giving me people who were ready to weather the storm. Those who were waiting for me whenever I came back tripped again.
You knew exactly who I would need to succeed in this life. Although I may have met others who didn’t stick around, I thank those I know who put them here, for a good cause. He knew everything about me, and he gave me a community of those who could love and appreciate that. You gave me others who reminded me of You, even when you feel far away. He gave me friends who gave me hope.
And for all that, I don’t think I can thank you enough.
