Google Preferred Sources now works in all languages

Google Preferred Sources now supports all languages, not just the English language. “Popular Sources is now live globally in all supported languages,” Google wrote on its blog this morning.

“This feature gives you more control over the stories you see in Search by letting you choose the stores and sites you want to appear more frequently in Top Stories,” Google added.

In December, Google rolled out popular sources worldwide but only supports English. It now supports all languages around the world.

Statistics. Google added some interesting data including:

  • “Readers are twice as likely to click on a site after marking it as a Favorite Source”
  • “People have already chosen over 200,000 unique sites – from local blogs to news desks around the world”

Popular Sources. Popular Sources allows searchers to star the publication of Top Stories in Google Search, and Google uses that signal to show more stories from those starred stores. The feature went into beta in June, rolled out in the US and India in August, and is now rolling out globally.

How does this work. Click the star icon to the right of the Top Stories header in search results. After that, you can choose the sources you like – assuming that the site publishes new content.

Google will then start showing you some of the latest updates from the sites you selected in Top Stories “if they have new articles or posts related to your search,” Google added.
