Meta introduces AI Mode to Facebook search to answer questions

Meta has introduced AI Mode to Facebook Search. AI mode provides users with AI-generated answers based on public content from Facebook Groups, Reels, and other Meta applications.
Instead of displaying a standard list of search results, AI Mode uses Meta AI to answer questions directly from Facebook. Meta said the answers are based on what people say publicly across their apps, including real information and recommendations.
AI responds to the search. AI mode supports both broad detection and specific queries. Users can search or explore their Feed and get answers from Meta AI within Facebook. This gives Facebook a new way to display social media content.
- Groups and Reels can be part of how Meta answers questions about products, places, hobbies, and daily advice.
The choice of source is unclear. Meta said the feature brings “real answers from real people.” But it didn’t explain how AI Mode chooses which public posts, Groups, or Reels appear in replies. It also didn’t say whether brands, creators, or publishers would be able to see when their content was being used.
Why do we care. Facebook search is moving towards an AI feedback experience built on social media content. That could change the way people find recommendations, location information, and product-related conversations across Meta apps.
A common name. Apparently, the new Meta AI Mode feature shares its name with Google’s AI Mode. Meta does not get skill points.
What Meta said. AI mode is powered by Meta AI and Muse Spark. Meta did not explain how Muse Spark influences search quality, source selection, or response generation.
- The search update was part of a broader Facebook AI rollout that included new creative tools for photos, videos, profile pictures, and Stories.
