OpenAI ensures that conversion-focused ads are coming to ChatGPT

OpenAI has confirmed that it will begin rolling out ad campaigns optimized for the conversion in early June, marking a clear signal however that the company is building a functional advertising ecosystem around ChatGPT.

Why do we care. This announcement confirms a report published yesterday by Information that OpenAI was preparing conversion-focused ads, tracking infrastructure and performance-based measurement tools for advertisers.

What’s going on. In a new email sent to advertisers, OpenAI said early access to optimized conversion campaigns will begin in June for accounts that set up the OpenAI Pixel or Conversions API in advance.

ChatGPT Conversion Tracking

According to the company:

  • advertisers preparing for the conversion on June 1 will receive early access on June 5,
  • and advertisers can already track conversions within the ad manager today.

The system allows advertisers to measure ad-driven actions after users engage with campaigns.

Between the lines. The release confirms that OpenAI is building an infrastructure very similar to mainstream performance advertising platforms such as Google and Meta.

The OpenAI Pixel enables tracking of website activity after ad interactions, while the Conversions API allows advertisers to send first-party conversion data directly back to OpenAI systems.

That setup gives OpenAI the ability to optimize campaigns toward measurable business results instead of simple engagement metrics.

What you can watch. The success of OpenAI’s advertising ambitions may largely depend on the accuracy of the measurement and the trustworthiness of the advertiser.

As browser restrictions and privacy changes continue to weaken traditional tracking methods, OpenAI’s Conversions API may become even more important to prove campaign and attribution performance within AI-driven ad experiences.
