Jennifer Garner is passing on Jenna Rink to a new generation, and she’s cheering from the producer’s chair. His verdict on his replacement Emily Bader: “she’s lovely.”

The cameras roll out on June 23 in Los Angeles under the working title Authentic, with wrap slated for August 11, with approximately 35 days of principal photography. The production attracted a California tax credit of about $10.9 million compared to $31.2 million in qualifying expenditures, and Netflix is treating this as a reconsideration rather than a recapture. One modern update confirmed: the Jenna Rink equivalent, now named Grace Fischer, has two fathers.

Brett Haley directs, fresh from Emily Bader’s Netflix rom-com People We Meet on Vacation, which spent four weeks in the platform’s Global Top 10 and charted in 92 countries. He brought in Bader and had Logan Lerman in mind at first as his foil. Hannah Marks wrote the script, with reviews by Flora Greeson (The Princess Diaries 3), and Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum are producing for RK Films.

Garner is the executive producer, and he says he doesn’t know how the story will turn out either. “I don’t really know what it’s going to be,” he told E! News of the Los Angeles premiere of Five Star Weekend on July 8. “But I think people will have a lot of fun watching it.”

For him, the new version carries the memory of original director Gary Winick, who died of brain cancer in 2011, seven years after the release of the first film. “I feel like the legacy of our director continues,” he said. “It just makes me so happy.”
No release date has been announced, but with a short shoot and an upcoming production, 2027 is the most likely window.
